PRIVACY POLICY
What Sinyal collects, and what it never shows.
Who it is for
Sinyal is for people 18 and over. We do not knowingly create accounts for anyone younger.
Data we collect
- Account: email, name, age, gender, bio, profile photos. Age and gender are never shown to anyone.
- Location: an approximate place used for matching. It is collected while the app is open. It is not collected in the background until you turn sharing on.
- Social: likes, comments, blocks, friendships, notifications.
- Messages: the chats you write.
How location is used
Location finds who you crossed paths with at the same place in the last 24 hours. No other user sees your exact coordinates, street address, or live position. The map shows only the latest meeting with each person, as an approximate tag. Your visited places are never listed for anyone else.
Sharing a place requires an explicit yes. You can refuse, and later stop it in Settings with “Don’t show me on the map.” After you agree, a pin is created by the rule you choose in Privacy: right away, after staying 10 minutes, after staying 30 minutes, or only when you tap Check in. If a wait is selected, nothing is pinned while you are walking or driving through. Each pin disappears 24 hours after it was created. Pins are not wiped at midnight.
Background sharing starts off. If you turn it on in Settings, iOS asks for Always location. That permission shares your approximate place by the same rule while the app is closed. There is no continuous GPS and no live tracking. iOS wakes the app when you stay somewhere, when your place changes significantly, or when you leave the area around your last place. Each wake takes a single fix. While you are driving, wakes become less frequent and no pin is written for the road. Turning the switch off stops that monitoring.
A circle you mark with “Don’t show me in this area” stays until you remove it. No pin is created inside it, so you do not match with anyone there. The center and radius belong only to you. They are not shown to anyone else.
If Be discoverable is off, you do not appear in Discover or on the map. If Show where you met on the map is off, the match stays in Discover and no pin is drawn.
Who can see it
Discover shows only accounts you crossed paths with in that 24-hour window. Comment text and the names of people who liked you stay hidden when those switches are off. Counts can stay visible. The friend list does not include location or visited places.
Messaging does not require a mutual like.
Where it is stored
Account, pins, messages, and photos are stored on Supabase in Europe (Frankfurt). Data is not sold, and it is not shared with ad networks or for tracking.
Retention
Location pins are not used for matching 24 hours after they were created. Account data stays until you delete it. Deleting the account removes your profile, pins, messages, photos, and reports. This cannot be undone.
Permissions
- Location while using the app — for Discover. The first prompt offers only While Using.
- Location always — only if you turn on Share in background. It starts off.
- Camera and photo library — only when you add a profile photo.
- Notifications — for messages, likes, comments, and friend requests. While the app is open, a message does not pop up; the chat tab shows the number.
Your choices
You can correct your profile, add and delete photos, and delete the account. Inside the app you can block or report someone.
